SGM Cine

The film-literature symbiosis s a fundamental key for the alternative culture festival Sui Generis Madrid. So much so that the main themes of the conferences of literature this year will also be present in the programming of SGM Cinema: the femme fatale, the occult and the monster.

We will have round tables around the figure of Frankenstein, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s novel, and we will approach the evolution and the contemporary vision of the monster in the noir, fantastic, horror and science fiction films, and in the television shows.

The seventh art has sought inspiration in the field of the supernatural and esoteric since its inception. The list of cinematographic works influenced by the occult is endless, being a recurring motif in the filmography of directors such as Polansky, Carpenter, Jodorowsky or Cronenberg, among many others. The close relationship between occult literature and cinema will be another topic that will be addressed in the talks and round tables.

In addition, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of our festival, we will screen a selection of the best short films of the nine previous editions of SGM Cine, chosen from more than 5,000 audiovisual pieces presented, both at the FNAC Forum in Callao and the Manzanares el Real castle during the SGM Fest.
